Put me on record saying that 'the miracle' is better than 'boots'

Put me on record saying 'poke in the eye with a sharp stick' is better than 'boots'.

I tend to agree. Boots was fun live but didn't work on record, whereas Miracle at least feels like it fits on SOI.

Come to think of it I never saw The Miracle live except on TV so I can't really comment. It's a load better than Boots in the studio though

Come to think of it I never saw The Miracle live except on TV so I can't really comment. It's a load better than Boots in the studio though

I'm with you Shank, I quite enjoy a little Boots now and then.  It is out of place on NLOTH and is the latter day Vertigo/Elevation/Discotheque, so nothing really new, but I find it fun and mindless as a diversion.

Boots is fun for what it is. The problem is that it doesn't fit on the album and it definitely should not have been the lead single.

I think there could be a decent song there but is buried under shite.

The verses are atrocious and suffer (like a lot of modern day u2 songs) from a dull chugging musical backdrop, plus awful, awful lyrics....so many modern day u2 songs have barely anything happening in the verses and Bono so front of mix with a dull grinding band behind him - then edge plays a bit of a riff pre chorus/chorus.....it's like a bad version of quiet/loud/quiet, lacking subtlety.

But the chorus has seeds of hope - the 'you don't know...' part with the backing vocal is cool..song has a decent bassline.

The let me in the sound part is also pretty cool and the sonic backdrop for it is good.

But these flashes are buried in an overall terrible arrangement, lyrics that make my teeth itch and the whole thing falls flat due to those things.

Bono coped the verses from Elvis Costello’s Pump it Up and wrote some awful lyrics. The chorus is just plain bad. Get on your boots/sexy boots. Just lazy and uninspired. They tried the Vertigo formula and it didn’t work.

But ya know...when I put on my sexy boots...
