yes 21.

for what it's worth i think he's stayed a strong songwriter. yes, SP has mad some SHIT music since the 06 reunion but ill be damned if i dont find myself returning to the new SP album and the 2012 offering, Oceania and his GREAT new solo album often.

Post me a few songs, Thrillho, and I'll check them out. Might be a belated SP fan in the making. Ava Adore is the one I'm blasting this week.

Ok, here are a few things I need to know, as a novice:

1) What percentage of SP are James and D'arcy, or is it really Billy Corgan and His Band? Tell me straight up.

2) Please describe the eras and their distinguishing characteristics. Please note that I am interested in all eras (i.e. I care about now too).

3) Exactly how much do James and D'arcy hate Billy?

4) Any guitar nerd talk about how Billy achieves his sound? What kind of effects, etc.

5) How do they deal with the layered guitar live?

6) Who is composing all those strings parts? I mean, strings appear in a lot of songs, otherwise I wouldn't wonder.

7) Who are his/their early influences?

1) What percentage of SP are James and D'arcy, or is it really Billy Corgan and His Band? Tell me straight up.
Billy is 99% of the band. D'arcy and James only have a handful of songs to their SP credits.

2) Please describe the eras and their distinguishing characteristics. Please note that I am interested in all eras (i.e. I care about now too).
1. Gish - alt-psychadelic
2. Siamese Dream - heavy alternative
3. MCIS - heavy alt/alt metal/acoustic and piano/dream pop
4. Adore - industrial/dance/trip hop
5. Machina - heavy alt
6. Zeitgeist - mid 00's alt rock, more mainstream.
7. Oceania - mature, alternative/dream pop/psych
8. Momuments To An Elegy - pop rock/synth pop
9. Shiny and Oh So Bright! Vol. 1 - alt/synth pop

3) Exactly how much do James and D'arcy hate Billy?
james not much as he's back in. D'arcy took a brunt of the psychological abuse and still hates him. ill post a link to a recent interview she did blasting him.

4) Any guitar nerd talk about how Billy achieves his sound? What kind of effects, etc.
no idea.

5) How do they deal with the layered guitar live?
no idea

6) Who is composing all those strings parts? I mean, strings appear in a lot of songs, otherwise I wouldn't wonder.
Billy i'd assume

7) Who are his/their early influences?
Black Sabbath, My Bloody Valentine

i also dont feel its fair to include Pisces Iscariot as an album, it's b-sides +  new songs. it's def up their with SD and MCIS though. it's not an album as i said but many consider it one.

also Machina 2 doesn't count, it was 3 EP and an "album" of demos given away to fans.

Billy, although SP is HIS band, has 2 solo albums. The Future Embrace which is more inline with the Adore side of the SP catalouge , and his newest one from like 2018 Ogilala, do NOT sleep on these, esp. if you like Adore. He composed half of the soundtrack to the Mel Gibson film Ransom, all instrumental. not bad.

For me personally, the 'true' Smashing Pumpkins is the whole band, ideally including Jimmy but definitely James and D'arcy.

I think we are in the same boat.  Since i got Adore last week i can't seem to stop listening!  I had Mellon Collie back in the day and someone "borrowed" it   >:(

Pretty sure i like Adore better.

Seeing THRILLHO-'s description of Oceania i am intrigued   8)

its a huge step up for his sound and maturity, its not just phoning-it-in-MOR-alt-rock like Zeitgeist. it has a very unique sound. most fans agree it's the best post-reunion album.
