ZOO TV 30 : yay or nay ?
« on: June 17, 2019, 07:00:12 AM »
On the one hand... I don't want U2 to be just a nostalgia act. But if I'm totally honest, nostalgia has had a large part in making me go see them for the last 15 years, as much if not more than new albums / Tours.

On the other hand... Revive the concept of information overload in today's world, social media, reality TV, etc... I think there's a lot to say. Are U2 still up for that mission ? I'm not sure ?
A dangerous idea that almost makes sense...

Yes. I don't want them to be just a nostalgia act either. BUT, I have to admit, the biggest thrills I've gotten when going to a U2 show are hearing/seeing the older songs. Heck, I'd go see them if they were only going to play their newer stuff, but it's the old U2 songs that I really want to hear. I missed most of the old tours...I'll go see them no matter what they play.

Nah.....Zoo Tv was of its time. It was ground breaking and superb. I dont think the band have the energy to do it justice now. Leave Zoo Tv as a distant (but very happy) memory please.

Despite my stance, IF the band did the tour, id likely make the effort to go. But, i do not care what anyone says, there is no way on this earth, that a potential Zoo Tv 30 tour would come anywhere clase to matching the original tour.
It kinda hacks me off when people say the JT30th tour was better than the original tour. I call BS on that, as much as i love the band, they are nowehre near the touring entity they were back in the 80s and early 90s.

That's why I think it would be interesting : the idea is not to do ZOO TV 1992/93 all over again, but bring back the concept with new content and applications. A comment on the state of media(s), the absurdity of it all... having thousands of people filming it with their cell phones would be super ironic, for instance.

Voted unsure, because like Soloyan says, there's something to be explored on what's happening currently in communications worldwide and I think that could make a good show. So maybe a new iteration of ZooTV, but not a replica of the original tour.

For me it's a no. But if they do, I'll happely go. So I'm not sure.

I think they could step off the album and anniversary tours, but go for thematical tours. An easy one (not that there are better choices) is a shows with their christian catalogue. Or their biggest rock songs. Another take could be rearranging songs to a certain style. All songs in the style of Miami, for instance.

In that way they can have fun touring without being an heritage act
