SOE: Songs of repeats?
« on: November 01, 2017, 07:31:13 PM »
Does anyone get the sense u2 just went back to their older work and tried to find a way to improve/change it up? That's the vibe I'm getting from the new songs especially with the American Soul leak.

American Soul- Glastonbury/Volcano. It literally has the same lyrics

YTBTAM-  ATYCLB outtake
GOOYOW- Beautiful day
Little things - love is blindness
Blackout- Even better/zoo station

I'm sure the band does this all the time.  Not rare with a lot of bands.  There are so many ways a song can go.  Revisiting ideas from old sessions i'm sure is a norm.

To me GOOYOW basically lifted the bass/drums directly from Beautiful Day. Sounds exactly the same.

Yes, but for the final product to sound so similar? Nothing on NLOTH sounds familiar.

It seems very intentional. Is this.......the end? Maybe Songs of Ascent if that ever happens? Would not surprise me if this is the end.....album wise.....or maybe they just like making me think that way, so I go and empty my pockets for them  ;D >:(

an tha, I heard that the band have included a song on the album full of Woo Hoo's especially for you, plus there's something in the lyrics about a small burrowing mammal creating tunnels in the soil! You're going to love it! :D ;)

With SOI I felt that there were songs on it that sounded like they could have been on a previous U2 album.  I have a feeling songs on SOE will fall along the same lines. I don't think it's necessarily a bad thing.
I feel my luck could change.

Best Thing and Little Things are fresh.  I kinda like how American Soul is finally the perfected version. Although the preachiness wears on me around the bridge.

Get Out is a derivative mantra. But I like it.

The Blackout bass line puts it above filler status

Plz no SFS two

Don't really agree with the songs of repeats view. We all cant help ourselves comparing anything they do to anything they have ever done and make comparisons across decades and so on.
