GOOYOW & the Duration of Your Fandom

OK, now that we have all heard the official release of GOOYOW, I am curious both about whether you like or not, as well as about whether there is a pattern relating to how long you have been a U2 fan.

My vote is that I have been a fan since the '80s (although my favorite era is the '90s), and I absolutely despise the song. What about you?

I've been a fan since the 80's and I really like the song.  IMO it is much much better than Best Thing.

I have deliberately avoided all these new songs to date and will do so until the album release.

It does not sound too promising though if people like you exile are so vocal about how bad this song is...i'll report back after 1st December!

Haha. I'll think about it. I don't want to be put in the corner of "new fans who like the 'bad U2'". But I don't hate the song, but not going to trash it.

I'd like a button which says: I'm fan from the 10s and quite neutral about it

Been a fan since the 70s and I like it a lot. It's not their greatest song, but it's far from their worst.

I knew straight away who wouldn't like it and who would. It's not indicative of the song, but our personal tastes in music.
The Edge: “[Eno] would love to see us making albums a bit more like [Zooropa]. Where we go, ‘You know what? We’re not going to second-guess any of this. Let’s just go for it.’”

U2 Fans: We'd all love to see that, Edge.

if '80s fans hate it, it's gotta be awesome.

The verses are an exact musical copy of Beautiful Day's. The intro is straight outta COBL.

Wait. There isn't even an option for fans since the '10s. That's great! Then I just don't have to choose!  :) ;)

Fans since the 80s.  GOOYAW is good.  Not particularly great but I like it well enough.

SOE is shaping up to be an album I would purchase and even listen to in occasion when I’m in the mood. So, that’s good news I guess.

Since U2 hasn't evolved musically since 2000 I saw no point in making the distinction!  ;D

For me it's not so much it's relation to any other U2 song but that it sounds just like a Killers song! I quite like the song, though, and I've been a fan since 1983. No masterpiece, by any means, but nowhere near their worst song for me. I just wish it didn't sound like it was a copy of several Killers songs rolled into one. As I said in another thread, I don't dislike The Killers (I do like a lot of their stuff) but I don't want U2 sounding like them! I want U2 sounding like U2! :)

You might as well abstain from listening to this song altogether. I'm not kidding when I say that this song is absolutely dreadful. Possibly my least favorite U2 song of all-time.
