Just listened to Let England Shake - the word masterpiece is thrown around a lot, but for my money this record absolutely deserves to be called one.

It isn't alone in this incredible artists cannon either IMO....

I kinda like me a bit of PJ. Was lucky enough to see her support u2 (twice), on the mighty Zoo Tv tour. One of the shows, there was a bit of a technical meltdown :)

I had a PJ Harvey day yesterday. I'm also a huge Nick Cave fan.

I can't get into 'Let England Shake' but I do absolutely love the new album 'Hope 6 Demolition Project' ... that is incredible.

My other favourite albums are

Stories from the city...
Is This Desire?
To bring you my love.

Some of the other albums I just can't get into. It's her voice sometimes. It can grate on me when it's uber-shrill or shrieking.

I've seen her live 2 or 3 times and she's great.

I've liked her since I was about 14 but I keep forgetting about her and rediscovering her throughout my life. Some albums I love. Others don't interest me.

May i recommend, Sir.....

The Peel Sessions 1991–2004

If you haven't tried it - do. It features a cross section of her work as played for John Peel down the years. I think it is incredible.

I’ve seen really great U2 support acts over the years - Pogues, BB King, the corrs , one Republic, snow patrol, Interpol, Muse...... would have loved to see Pearl Jam in Honolulu on vertigo - tried to but couldn’t

Traitor ...... of course PJ is a decade younger so a less than fair comparison “as artists stand today” - I really meant based on entire catalog. Not sure if that changes anything ....... I suppose a decade ago U2 was already at a point where their best days were behind them in hindsight. Other than Beethoven’s 9th (look it up), I don’t think any  artist had done their best work past age 50

Yeah PJ's first album was 1992 so twelve years after u2's.

It is an inbalanced comparison as you say.

That said 25 years after her first she is arguably at a creative peak.....it could be argued that 25 years after u2's first that steep decline had set in.

All subjective of course I love both.....

Never got into her. Saw her open for U2 in Pittsburgh 2001. Not sure if it was the acoustics of Mellon Arena (VERY possible), but she didn't sound good at all. Screechy and tinny. Sad that that keeps me from appreciating/listening to her stuff.
I saw Gloria live. Even if I never see the band live again, at least I saw Gloria live. :)
