who is actually pushing for this museum?  is it the band?  it seems a bit arrogant to me.  do any other bands have something like this?

Lots of others do. The ABBA museum in Stockholm is a landmark. Abbey Road is a huge tourist attraction even though you can't enter the studio. The Cavern Club in Liverpool is a huge tourist attraction.

The band gave their support to it, but it's a long-time business partner - the same dude who partnered with them on the clarence hotel - who is funding this. As far as I know, the band isn't financially involved.

The Rolling Stones have a museum too, it's called a tour.
The Edge: “[Eno] would love to see us making albums a bit more like [Zooropa]. Where we go, ‘You know what? We’re not going to second-guess any of this. Let’s just go for it.’”

U2 Fans: We'd all love to see that, Edge.

so, based on this, it sounds as if exactly one other band (ABBA) have something comparable... not exactly 'lots'....?

I'll be going. If I'm smart enough and organised, it could be a day trip for me....but Dublin's Fair City has so much else to offer, a day doesn't do it any justice.
One love, One blood, One life;
You got to do what you should.
One life; With each other

One life; But we're not the same
We get to carry each other, Carry each other

Be nice if it was for all Irish music (Michael Flatley and Riverdance can piss off though!), especially rock and alternative. They could alternate the displays in the main room. One month The Cranberries, the next month Virgin Prunes, etc.

i kind of agree with this.  i don't even think active bands should be releasing greatest hits albums.
