Bono song in "Aquaman"
« on: January 02, 2019, 04:10:32 AM »
I took the kids to see Aquaman and was very surprised that they used Roy Orbison's "She's a mystery to me" for one scene.
A dangerous idea that almost makes sense...

Bono wrote that?  I thought the song they wrote for Orbison was never recorded.  Or am i thinking of Sinatra and Two Shots of Happy?

Yep. And U2 even played it a few times

Sheís a Mystery is one of the best pop songs Bono ever wrote. Would have been a number 1 if they would have saved it for Rattle & Hum. Roy Orbisonís version is great though. One of the great voices in popular music history.
Definitive U2 Top 10: 1. One, 2. Bad, 3. With Or Without You, 4. Running to Stand Still, 5. So Cruel, 6. Ultraviolet, 7. I Still Havenít Found What Iím Looking For, 8. Hawkmoon 269, 9. Red Hill Mining Town, 10. Luminous Times

Both songs were recorded. She's a mystery to me was a big hit for Orbison in the 80's. Sinatra didn't record two shots of happy, though his daughter did.

U2 were at their hottest at that point. The year before in 1987 they had 2 number 1's and in 1988 they had their 1st British number 1. I don't think it's a stretch at all to think in 1988 if it was the 2nd single it could have hit number 1.

I wonder if the problem was that Bono was struggling to hit the chorus, as this outtake seems to show. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n-XDgiTX204

In the 2000's, they finally performed the song live, and Bono did OK with the chorus. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jU1lSHV89M4

Thanks for the 1988 video. I knew that song was one of the "5 songs recorded in 5 hours" but had never heard it. Bono's voice is clearly shot there but it had potential.

Let's go easy on Bono. Hard to be compared to one of the most beautiful voice of the 20th century.
