Ed Sheeran Divide tour set to overtake U2360 in 2019
« on: December 22, 2018, 05:15:37 PM »
Ed Sheeran's Divide tour has already grossed over $600 Million and played to 7,000,000 people. In 2019, it will formally overtake U2360 as the biggest tour by any artist in history.

For me, Ed Sheeran is crap, but I nevertheless congratulate him on such an accomplishment, and I don't care that he will take U2's record from them. Does anyone else care?

I can't imagine why anyone who does not earn from it would care that u2 held this 'record' and i can't imagine why anyone would care about someone else taking it, unless they were earning from it.

well I mean if you’re into records and that sorta thing. As a Liverpool fan it bothers me that United has 20 titles to Liverpool’s 18 for instance.

But don’t you have more UEFA championships?  ;)

It's been said that records were made to be broken.  To have that record from 2011 to 2019 is a feat in itself.  I enjoyed 360 and that'll remain unchanged.

I guess the disturbing thing is that there are that many people in the world who want to go and see Ed Sheeran.  I don't think i really even know but one of his songs.

How many shows has he had to play. He is likely having to play non stop for years on end to beat u2?

200+ and counting for Sheeran.

 U2 360 had 110 in total over 3 legs.

With the going rate for some of these pop stars (Bruno MArs was charging cloase to $200 a ticket last year in Portland!!) i didn't expect U2 to  have this record for this long.

I can get that Sheeran might take U2's title for highest grossing tour.
What I don't get is that this kid bases his act around one guitar and a load of effects (personally not a fan), people love it want to see him live.
But kids don't play guitars now. My local indie instrument shop is shutting down and they say business is dead because kids don't play the guitar.
So actually, does this hugely popular pseudo guitar playing kid end up actually go some way in discouraging many kids from taking up the instrument?

Good news.  The longer he stays on tour, the longer til we have to endure another album release. . . .

I don't care much about "highest grossing tour" record for U2 - it has been discussed that while 360 was the highest grossing, it probably wasn't the most profitable because of the amount of money they sunk into each show.

That said, anyone can tour for 5 years, double the amount of shows that the 360 tour had, and get to this dubious "record". It's all very silly and completely arbitrary IMO.

That U2 have been the same four guys from Dublin over a 40+ year career, through ups and downs (and Bono)..that is much more impressive to me than highest grossing tour. Usually these types of arrangements dissolve amidst bitterness and acrimony well before 40 years.

Dude, the article in question counted all of Billy Joel's concerts this century as one tour. Seriously.
