Tours your gutted you missed?
« on: August 28, 2018, 07:57:49 AM »
Are there any tours, in your  adult lifetime, that you are really gutted about missing?

I really should have made a bigger effort to go and see Simple Minds 5X5 tour a few years back. It was a tour where each night, they played 5 tunes from each of their first 5 albums. That specific time frame is a huge favourite of mine. They really were such a magnificent band during the first 5 albums

Also, Danny Lanois played Glasgow in 1990. Id really have loved to have seen that show.

The Police reunion concerts a decade ago, though they didn't play anywhere near where I lived, so at least I have that excuse. I DID have a chance to catch R.E.M. back in 2008 and put it off. Had I known they'd hang it up a few years later I would have jumped at that chance.

it kills me when age appropriate U2 fans didn't see Zoo or Popmart.

so i could have seen Popmart, i knew a guy that went and another that had tickets and didn't go <his parents wouldnt let him, he was sick/it was a school night....i hate him for not sneaking out like he should have>

i had a ticket to see Pearl Jam's 98 Yield tour, which would have been my first concert, and my ride bailed on me so i dindt go. my parents refused to drop me off at the arena, my dad, ever the a-hole, told me to learn to take the bus. like. right that night learn to do it. i was ditched last minute. i hate that i didnt see it of course but more that i just threw the ticket away. i really still hope i DIDNT throw it away and come across it someday.

a friend left me a ticket at willcall to see Radioheads 01 or 02 tour i forget the year <im in dallas> for the austin tx show. i regret not going. i REALLY regret it. i didn't go out of sheer laziness.

those are the tours i was aware i was not seein the night they were happening, there's lots of bands i wish i'd seen tour but that list is to long.

I'm disappointed I missed going to see PopMart at Leeds.  I was so close to buying a ticket but at the time I just couldn't be bothered with all the effort of going.  It's the only U2 show that justified being performed in a stadium, IMO.

Gutted i missed Zoo TV.
Same here.  I was just starting to get into their music at that point.  Plus, I was around 12/13 years old so I'm not sure I could have convinced my parents to let me go.
I feel my luck could change.

Earth Wind & Fire '76 Think they were playing the Silverdome on the bicentennial, or at least the same week.
Led Zep '77
Pink Floyd '80...had tix lined up for night 4 of The Wall in NYC, but then our lodging (a friend's aunt and uncle) fell through.
Queen '82. Free ticket and I let it slide. #dumbass
The Smiths 1986
Husker Du, Warehouse tour ('87 or '88). They should've been playing a 2,000 seater, played a 700-capacity club instead.
Voivod, Nothingface tour, 1990. Soundgarden and Faith No More were the opening acts. Working midnights at the time; couldn't afford to take the night off.
The Waterboys, Room To Roam tour, 1990. Car broke down on the way to the gig.
Nightwish, 2004. Nearest show was in Toronto. Got myself a ticket for the August show, but the band couldn't get into Canada bc visa issues. They rescheduled for the weekend before Xmas, but too many commitments made me miss it. Still have that unused ticket.
U2, 360 tour. Toronto again, this time passport problems on my end. Still have that pair of unused tix.

There's more, but enough for now.

i'd say the same thing <i think i was 10> theres no chance my parents would have taken me. i mean i had zero concept of "concerts" at that mind you. ive heard of people taking there 7 y/os <i think he was> to KISS in the 70s....he swears he remembers the whole show.

Zoo TV. I was 15 years old. My sister's boyfriend at the time was able to secure me a ticket. My parents still had a bit of that Christian fundy view of popular music residue in their parenting left over from my sister's time, so there was no way that I was going without a struggle or covert operations. They had to go to a wedding that night, and it would've been easier to sneak out if they had left on time, but they kept getting delayed and delayed. They FINALLY left and I calculated that there was no way that I'd get the 45 minutes to Pittsburgh covered in time to see the show. I was so pissed off that I threw the video of UABRS into the VCR and blasted the volume as loud as it could go.

It's still the one moment that I would take a time machine to see.
I saw Gloria live. Even if I never see the band live again, at least I saw Gloria live. :)

I regret not seeing Pixies/Throwing Muses on their debut UK tour of 1988, and the Smiths 1986  too.  Of things that have happened whilst I've been an adult I missed out on the Verve reunion - I saw them the first time round but would've loved to see them again.

Sad I missed ZooTV. I was 12...I should have just asked my parents to take me.

Instead, I was at Disney World.

Hold on, people! The man's talking about waste management. That affects the whole damn planet.

As much as I loved U2 back then, I have a feeling at age 11/12 a lot of the ZooTV message would have probably gone over my head. So, when you are 12 its probably more on the Disney side.

you look way to happy to be in that photo and NOT seeing Zoo TV.

no i kid, and i agree, i would have seen the Dallas April 5th 92 show with the Pixies opening <!!!!!!!> <i'd have been 10>, and it wouldn't have had the impact it should have had on me at that point. honestly, i probably wouldn't have liked it at all.

now Popmart Dallas May 12th 97 with Rage Against the Machine <!!!!!!!!!!> i'd have been 15 and definitely would have loved it.
