Where in the world...
« on: October 22, 2017, 12:49:03 PM »
A couple of questions here

1) Where are you from?
2) Where have you seen U2 play?
3) Where are you hoping to see them on the SOE tour?

I'll go first

1 - Leeds, UK

2 - Roundhay Park, Leeds 1997
   - Manchester Arena, Manchester 2001
   - Man City Stadium, Manchester 2005
   - Olympic Stadium, Rome 2005
   - 2x shows at Berlin Arena 2015
   - O2 Arena, London 2015

3 - This time around I'm expecting to avoid an English show unless it's in Leeds which I doubt. So I'm happy to go anywhere in Europe the top of my list is either Barcelona because I loved that city and I wish to go back or Amsterdam because I have a place I can stay.

I'm from Michigan and have seen U2 fourteen times since the Conspiracy of Hope tour, mostly in Detroit but occasionally in Chicago area or Cleveland.

I've lived in Lincolnshire, England for about 20 years now.
I've seen U2 seven times:
1993 Zooropa Leeds Roundhay Park
1997 PopMart Leeds Roundhay Park
2001 Elevation Birmingham NEC
2001 Elevation Slane Castle (First one)
2005 Vertigo - I was one of those unfortunate souls who missed out in the ticketing fiasco. Still grumpy about it.
2009 360 London Wembley
2015 Innocence and Experience O2 London
2017 Joshua Tree London Twickenham

Next time out I'd love to say I intend to travel to a show in Europe, but with the cost being prohibitive these days I'll probably take in at least one, maybe two UK shows. I quite fancy a trip to Scotland for a change.

1) The Netherlands

2) Amsterdam (2) 2017
(a Sad list, I know)

3) Amsterdam
If that doesn't work because of timing or because it's full, I can try shows in England and Madrid. But I think that's not going to happen

I don't know what the airports are like near you but I recently went to see Guns n Roses in Nijmegen, Netherlands because it was cheaper and easier than to go to the London show ... I managed to get a flight from Manchester for £35 return (cheaper than a train to a London) the hotel was cheaper than London also and so was the ticket. I managed to get a Golden Circle ticket for the same price as standard entry in London. Seeing U2 in Berlin on the SOI tour was overall cheaper than going to see them at the O2.

It's definitely worth looking into and can be a lot of fun.

1.
Merseyside originally but now living not too far away.  Lived in South East England for Vertigo & 360 tours

2.
2001 - Manchester
2005 - Manchester (honeymoon!)
2009 - London
2015 - London - stayed with the in-laws who were a 30 minute tube ride away from the O2. Cheap accommodation (!) & good family time too.  Would have liked Glasgow though but managed to pull off stay on outskirts of London (getting in-laws to confirm is like getting blood out of a stone!).
2017 - London.  Stayed out of London and got train to Twickenham.  Cheaper and great for getting back again as no long queues for trains.

3.
Manchester would be great, otherwise other places up North or Glasgow / Cardiff.  Possibly O2 again.

Im in Scottish Highlands.

I have seen u2 in the following places

Edinburgh in 1985 and 1997
Glasgow, in 1993, 2001, 2005, 2009 and twice in 2014
London in 2001 and 2017

As for the upcoming tour, there are only two venues that would host u2 in Scotland. Both are in Glasgow (side by side). But id take bets on it being The Hydro

Ireland, west siiiiiiiide

Seen them in -
Dublin - Popmart 97
Slane x2, and London - Elevation 01
Glasow and Dublin - Vertigo 05
Amsterdam and Dublin - SOI 15
Dublin - JT 17

SOE, I dunno, I'm honestly feeling a bit tapped out with U2 live. Gigs in general are just a lot of money and hassle these days. If I got a ticket handy, I'd probably go see them in Dublin. Would also like to see them in Italy, Italian crowds seem ace.

But not too pushed if I missed this next tour.

1987: Croke Park nights 1 and 2
1989: All four nights at point depot including 2 of U2s most famous shows - dreaming it all up again and New Years
1993: RDS Zoo TV night 1 of 2 .....didn't make night 2

Bonus: Saw Bono take the stage with Bob Dylan at the RDS

US shows:
1997 Miami Popmart
2001: Elevation Sunrise - opening night and night 2
2005: American Airlines Arena Vertigo tour
2011: St Louis, Missouri 360
2011: New Jersey 360
