Live Shows
« on: October 22, 2017, 09:55:41 AM »
So, this morning around 5am I had to go walk an Irish setter, and on the drive over, I heard Aerosmith's "I don't wanna miss a thing". And, I thought to myself, THAT'S how I am at  U2 show...I don't think I ever even blink. I remember after my 1st of two SOI shows, the next day my face hurt, and it took me awhile to figure out that it was from smiling so much!

That's fantastic! At their best the songs lift me out of myself. The only way I can describe it is some sort of ecstatic experience where I get so immersed in the music and taken somewhere else. It doesn't always happen but it does more often than not and a U2 concert is one of the rare places this happens. Usually in With or Without you! That's how powerful their music can be at its best.

You understand completely! I actually get to a point during a live show where the people around me cease to exist...it's just me and the music...an incredible thing to experience. Very satisfying, calming, a sense of healing for me.

Yes! The clearest memory I have of an experience like that was at Portland, OR at the last date of their US leg in 2005. I may as well have been there on my own. What about you? I'd queued all day to take a chance on getting a ticket from the box office. Got one right on the front row. Paul McGuinness sat below me with a copy of the setlist in his hand!

Very cool...
The first SOI show, I took my guy with me...I honestly forgot he was there for awhile. The next night, I went by myself...same thing...except that I forgot that the other 19,000 people were there!
A memorable moment from the 2nd show...a younger couple were next to me...maybe in their 30's...very nice, we chatted before the show. At some point, and I can't remember which song it was, I came out of my trance...heard sobbing...the woman was just absolutely sobbing. Her husband had his arm around her...I reached over and took her hand. What a moment.

So true whenever I go to see U2 nothing matters in the world to me. It's great therapy such an amazing atmosphere. The coming down after it ends is the hard part.

I always tear up at some point during the show. I'm doing it now just thinking about it! :'(

That's exactly how I am.  When I took my daughter to JT2017 I almost forgot she was there.  I went to night 2 of SOE by myself and I didn't mind being alone at all.  I get into my own zone and just take it all in.  If they play 2 shows for the next tour, I will go by myself to the 2nd show.

I think I may do the same. I always feel like I have to pay attention to the other person if I have someone with me. If I'm alone, I fell like I'll be able to just let go and be totally in the moment.
