I'm giving it a listen for the first time in years.  Used to be in my least favorite album tracks.  U2 went through a period where they were terrible at album closers.  I'm enjoying Edge's guitar a little more on this listen yet the song feels very alien in the U2 experience.  This listen has taken it from a 2 to a 5.  Edge's multiple riffs can't save a sloppy chorus.

Gave it a 9...because...

Jesus, Jesus help me
I'm alone in this world
And a fucked-up world it is too.

A crisis of faith song makes it "dark", but apart from the allusions in the final verse, what is "rich" and "deep" here?

Your Father, He made the world in seven
He's in charge of heaven
Will you put a word in for me?

Wasn't it you who complained about clunky lyrics?

Musically it has a beauty to it, particularly at the start, but it doesn't fulfil its promise.  Another weak chorus.  I'll give it 6.

10, with If God Will Send His Angles my first favorites of the album.

It's also one of the first songs that I listened to when I tried an hour listening to U2.

Later the song put me through things. It helped me. Not sure yet if the song ends good or not.

Resounding 10. I love a dark U2 album closer, and this is one of their best.

9/10

Lyrically, it shows off Bono at his best. Edge's simple, monotonous guitar riff provides the perfect melancholic backing. Contemplative, moody, and an all-around beautiful and profound song.

There is not a bad song on PoP,  there are really good songs,  really great songs,  and songs that may kill you and you will thank them for it later on in the next life.  This song questions the very existence of everything.....therefore making me kind of glad i am still alive....it's a really good song that gives me chills and whispers like messages from the one's we've lost...
