This song gets a lot of grief, and I agree when the grief is aimed  at the "my mammy" lyric.
But, I do think it's a fun song, with some pretty funny and factual lyrics about the town.
I never skip it...having said that, I'm only giving it a 5.

Sad to say, for me this is one of my most-skipped tracks. I'm throwing it a 1.

7. I like the song, but it's not a good song. It's intented to be boring, but it doesn't work for me like Numb did

Dripping in irony - a fucking boss beat.

Also contains one of my favourite passages in a u2 song... this section the peak of which sees edge explode into life...

I bought two new suits
Miami
Pink and blue
Miami
I took a picture of you
My mammy
Getting hot in a photo booth
Miami.

I said you looked like a madonna.
You said maybe.
You said I wanna have your baby, baby.
We could make something beautiful
Something that wouldn't be a problem
We could make something beautiful
Something that wouldn't be a problem
Least not in Miami.

You know, some places are like your auntie
But there's no place like Miami
My mammy
Miami
My mammy.
I know you are here to kill me. Shoot, coward, you are only going to kill a man

I rated it a 9/10, but in reality, it would be 8.5/10 because:

Studio version: 8/10.
Live version: 9/10 (Leeds 1997 is my favourite).

A very unique track.

The groove needs a real chorus. Lyrics need tightening. Who's that guitarist? Maybe he can replace the session player on SoE (that never gets old for me).
I saw Gloria live. Even if I never see the band live again, at least I saw Gloria live. :)

F'ing handicam. At the time I thought this was the nadir of U2...little did I know there was more to come.
Hold on, people! The man's talking about waste management. That affects the whole damn planet.

Great song. Heavy and ferocious live tune.

They went to the extreme with Mofo and this one.

6. It took me a long time to warm up to this one. It's definitely not one of their best, but it's got a fun groove that I enjoy once in a while - especially in the "make something beautiful" part.

9/10

Criminally overlooked. Miami is of U2's most ferocious and swaggery songs... but sadly one of its last.

It's a great example of Bono writing something that seems carefree and "natural" without compromising quality. A flawless critique of American culture.

As for the rest of the band, the music shares that same lackadaisical feeling. The processed drum-loop that opens the song sounds totally unhinged and is later met with Larry's simple but damn satisfying part. As with the entirety of Pop, Adam dominates. Edge's soporific solo is the perfect finisher for the puzzle.

Couldn't stand this song when I first started listening to Pop. Couldn't believe they'd sunk that low. Then someone somewhere mentioned that it was great live, so I went and watched a video ... and dang, they were right. Flipped me right around and now I thoroughly enjoy it. 8.

Probably didn't help that I lived in Florida for three years and despised the place. Sorry, Floridians. :)
