This is a very emotional song...very strong lyric. I'm giving it a 9.

9. Beautiful, moving, and one of Bono's best lyrical efforts ever.

10. Brilliant - I think the live version is by far the most powerful song they’ve ever written.

It is a brilliant song, but the album version is nowhere near as powerful as the live one.  I'd give the Popheart single version 10 any day of the week, the album version less.  I'll vote 10 as we're discussing the song not a particular recording of it.

Album version 8

Single 10

Haunting, dark, somber, brave. One of the very best U2 songs ever.

Brilliant. I'll take the rough, melancholic album version over the single arrangement every day.

The album version is really good,  better than the single version in my mind,  however the live version is to die for.
