This is a great song for people of faith, because without doubt, where is the faith?

RS has it at ~93 in the top 500 songs of all time.  Rightfully so.  Powerful.  Album version always did it for me

Never liked it and that version with the gospel choir on rattle and hum is the most pretentious thing they have ever done...what the actual fuck is that all about...

Um...it's about U2 proving their deep roots in American rock and R&B. I mean, they were escorted under heavy security into a church in Harlem and sang with the New Voices of Freedom under the direction of a record label guy straight out of central casting. They really proved their bono-fides. /s
